Because down in Lexington, Kentucky, drivers on Interstate 75 got quite the head-scratcher this past Monday morning. Police dispatch lit up with calls about a silver sedan cruising along, and in the passenger seat, clear as day, was a full-sized mannequin!
Now, you can imagine the calls they were getting. Some folks thought it was just a strange sight, but others, bless their hearts, were genuinely concerned it might be something more serious, like, well, a body. The mannequin, dressed in regular street clothes and buckled in tight, certainly had folks guessing.
Eventually, the authorities caught up with the car and pulled it over. Behind the wheel was Ms. Edna Mae Higgins, a charming 67-year-old lady, who didn’t miss a beat. She calmly explained that her passenger was ‘Carl,’ her trusty travel companion. Turns out, Carl often joins her on long trips, not just for company – which she said he’s excellent at, being such a good listener – but also to help her use the carpool lane! The officers gave Ms. Higgins a warning about potentially obstructed views and distracted driving, but no heavy charges were laid. Just another day on the highway, I reckon, when you’ve got folks bringing their unique companions along.
