Well now, bless your heart, folks, for stoppin’ by. Gather ’round, ’cause I’ve got a tale from right here in our neck of the woods that’s got folks scratchin’ their heads and cluckin’ in disbelief. You know Jebediah Miller, down past the old crick, the one with the prize-winning tomatoes? Well, Jeb’s got himself a rooster, a magnificent bird named Reginald. He’s got a comb redder than a ripe strawberry and a crow that’d wake the dead at dawn. A true king of the coop, that Reginald.
Now, you’d expect a rooster to be crowing, chasing hens, and generally being… well, a rooster. But Jebediah, he noticed something mighty peculiar a few mornings back. There, nestled in the straw, was an egg. A perfectly formed, if a bit small, egg. And it wasn’t one of his hens’ usual offerings. Curiosity got the better of him, and he kept a watchful eye. Lo and behold, a day or two later, another egg appeared. And then he saw it with his own two eyes: Reginald, his proud rooster, was the one responsible!
Jebediah, being a sensible man, first figured he was seeing things, or maybe some prankster was at play. But no, it was his own Reginald! He took the bird to the vet, naturally, thinking maybe something was terribly wrong. Turns out, according to the good doctors, Reginald had undergone a rare biological phenomenon – a sex reversal! It happens, they say, sometimes with hormone shifts or whatnot. The eggs, sadly, weren’t fertile, so no baby chick-roosters from Reginald. But still, imagine that! A rooster laying eggs!
