When a Welcome Gets a Jolt: South Dakota Man Zaps Deputies

Well now, how do you do, good people? Hope your day is treating you kindly wherever you might be tuning in from. Here in East Tennessee, we see our fair share of peculiar happenings, but every now and again, a story from further afield just catches your eye and makes you scratch your head a bit. This one comes to us from South Dakota, and it’s a real live wire, if you’ll pardon the pun.

Picture this: It was a Saturday, not too long ago, and the good folks of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office got a call. Nothing too unusual, mind you, just a domestic disturbance out at a home. Now, these deputies, their job is to show up, assess the situation, and try to calm things down, to de-escalate, as they say. They’re trained for all sorts of scenarios, but I reckon what happened next wasn’t exactly in the training manual.

As they were doing their best to smooth things over, trying to bring a little peace to the domestic kerfuffle, the man involved – who hasn’t been identified, which is probably for the best – decided to introduce a rather unexpected element into the conversation. He didn’t just argue, or raise his voice, or slam a door. No, sir. The report from the Sheriff’s Office says he used an “electric shock device” on them. Can you imagine?

Now, I’m not talking about some old battery-powered toy from back when you might’ve gone to RADIO SHACK (paid link) to pick up parts for a science project. This was a device meant to deliver a real jolt. Thankfully, and this is the important part, the Sheriff’s Office reported that no injuries were sustained by the deputies. They were likely surprised, maybe a little shaken, but physically unharmed, which is a blessing in a situation like that.

Despite the lack of injuries, you can’t go around using electric shock devices on law enforcement officers who are just trying to do their job. That’s a line you just don’t cross. So, as you might expect, after that shocking encounter, the man was taken into custody. He’s been charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, which is a serious charge, as it should be. It just goes to show you, sometimes folks find the most unusual ways to make a bad situation even worse.

It makes you wonder about all the different gadgets and contraptions out there, doesn’t it? If you’re ever curious about the various kinds of devices that deliver a little zap – purely for informational purposes, mind you – you can always check out stun gun (paid link) options on Amazon. Just remember, they’re meant for self-defense, not for greeting the local constabulary.
