Well now, howdy folks, glad you decided to stop by and let old Howe spin you a yarn today. Got a doozy for ya, one that proves even our furry neighbors have a taste for the finer things in life, especially when it comes to midnight munchies.
You see, down in Jefferson County, over in the Lakepoint community, a family got quite the surprise not too long ago. Picture this: it’s about one in the morning, everybody’s tucked in, probably dreaming sweet dreams of biscuits and gravy, when suddenly, there’s a commotion. Not a burglar, mind you, but something a good bit hairier. A bear had decided to pay a visit, and let me tell you, it wasn’t just window shopping.
This particular bear, and from what I hear, these fellas are often quite smart about finding a good meal, managed to open the family’s garage door. Now, I don’t know if he picked the lock or just gave it a good shove, but in he went. And what did our four-legged gourmand find? A freezer, full of what I can only imagine were some mighty tempting treats. He didn’t stop there though. He then made his way into the house itself, through the main door.
Now, you might be wondering, what’s a bear’s favorite late-night snack? Turns out, it’s not just berries and honey anymore. This bear had his sights set on some delicious nachos. That’s right, a big old plate of nachos. Makes you think, doesn’t it? Maybe he was tired of the same old foraging routine and wanted something with a little more zest.
The homeowner, being a quick thinker, managed to scare the bear off with some hollering and a bit of noise. Our furry friend, perhaps a little embarrassed to be caught mid-snack, ambled back out the way he came. No one was hurt, thankfully, and no major damage was done, just a story to tell for generations, I reckon. It just goes to show, you never know what kind of company you might have eyeing your pantry.
Now, if you’re like me, you might be thinking about securing your home a little better after hearing a tale like that. Maybe a sturdy lock, or even a motion-activated light. And if you’re looking to stock up on some heavy-duty storage for your garage, or maybe even a new freezer that a bear might find a little tougher to get into, you could check out what’s available online. I remember back in the day, if you needed anything from a new antenna to parts for a home security system, you might’ve popped into a place like Radio Shack (paid link). Things sure have changed, but keeping your snacks safe is still a top priority!
All in all, it was a harmless but certainly memorable encounter. Just another day in East Tennessee, where even the wildlife has a refined palate for human comfort food. Be sure to keep those doors locked, folks, you never know who’s got a craving for your dinner. This story reminds us that living in such beautiful, wild places means sharing with our animal neighbors, even when they decide to invite themselves in for a bite.
