Well now, greetings to y’all, hope you’re enjoying a peaceful moment wherever you’re tuning in from. Here in East Tennessee, we certainly know a thing or two about unexpected visitors, especially after a good strong rain. But I reckon what happened to a fellow down in Florida recently takes the cake, or maybe, the bait!
Imagine this: A hurricane, a real blustery, noisy affair, has just swept through. You’ve buttoned down the hatches, ridden out the storm, and now you’re stepping out to survey the damage, maybe pick up a few fallen branches. Our story’s hero, a gentleman in Florida, decided to check on his garage, naturally, to make sure everything was in order. He probably expected a bit of water, maybe some leaves blown in, the usual post-storm mess.
What he found instead wasn’t your run-of-the-mill squirrel seeking shelter or even a displaced neighborhood cat. Nope. He found himself eyeball to eyeball with a full-grown alligator. A good seven feet of scales and teeth, just making itself at home right there in his garage! Can you picture that? One minute you’re thinking about storm clean-up, the next you’re realizing your garage has become an impromptu swamp hotel.
Now, I don’t know about you, but a seven-foot alligator is a mighty persuasive reason to keep your distance. It seems this scaly visitor had decided the garage offered a much better spot to ride out the hurricane than whatever watery home it had before the wind started really howling. Smart fella, if you think about it from the alligator’s perspective, though perhaps a tad inconvenient for the homeowner.
Naturally, our Florida friend didn’t try to offer it a cup of sugar or ask it to help reorganize the tools. He did the sensible thing and called in the wildlife officials. Those folks are the true professionals when it comes to politely, but firmly, relocating a reptile of that size. They managed to safely round up the gator, which, I imagine, was just as surprised to be leaving as the man was to find it. They then took it to a suitable body of water nearby, where it could go back to being a normal, non-garage-dwelling alligator.
The homeowner, who kept his wits about him, was unharmed in the whole ordeal, and his garage, surprisingly enough, only suffered minimal damage. I reckon he’ll be checking his garage a little more carefully after future storms. You know, back in the day, a good old (paid link) Radio Shack weather radio was a staple for storm season. While it won’t warn you about gators in the garage, it sure helps with the big picture! It’s just a reminder that even after the wildest weather, you never quite know what kind of surprises might be waiting for you.
