A Load of Laundry, or a Load of… Python? Florida Man Gets a Scaly Surprise!

Well now, hello there, folks! Pull up a chair, won’t you? Got a tale today that’s gonna make you double-check your laundry before you toss it in, especially if you happen to live down in sunny Florida.

You know, most mornings when you’re facing a mountain of dirty clothes, the biggest surprise you expect to find is maybe a forgotten twenty-dollar bill in a pocket, or perhaps a missing sock that’s made its way to another dimension. But down in Coconut Creek, Florida, a homeowner was about to get a discovery that was, shall we say, a *tad* bit more serpentine.

Our anonymous friend was just going about his business, ready to tackle the laundry, when he opened up his washing machine. Now, I don’t know about you, but when I’m headed to do the wash, my biggest worry is usually a missing sock or maybe if I remembered to pre-treat that stain. This fellow, he was probably thinking about his next load, maybe even wondering if he needed to grab a new laundry detergent (paid link) to get those whites brighter. But then he opened that washer door, and instead of socks and shirts, he found himself face-to-face with a creature that looked like it belonged more in an adventure movie than in his utility room.

At first glance, bless his heart, he thought maybe it was just a big rubber snake, some kind of prank perhaps. But it didn’t take long for him to realize this wasn’t any plastic toy. This was a very much alive, very large, and very unexpected 14-foot python, coiled up inside his washing machine. Can you imagine? A snake so long it could stretch across your living room and still have a few feet to spare! Wildlife officials who came to the scene estimated this slithery surprise weighed around 30 pounds. That’s a good-sized fella, indeed.

Now, this particular python, they reckoned, was a Burmese python, which is an invasive species down in Florida. They’re not supposed to be out and about, much less making themselves at home in your laundry appliances. The big question, of course, is how in the world did a 14-foot snake manage to get itself all coiled up inside a washing machine? Experts figure it might have been looking for a warm, dark, and secure spot to settle in. I tell you, if I opened my washer and found that, I reckon I’d want to call up every old expert I knew, maybe even check if I could find any old diagnostic tools from Radio Shack (paid link) to figure out what kind of strange energy field attracted such a creature! But thankfully, the professionals were able to safely remove the enormous reptile and take it to a wildlife facility.

So next time you’re doing your laundry, maybe give that washing machine a good peek inside before you start the cycle. You just never know what kind of wild tale you might find waiting for you. Stay weird, folks!
