Howdy, friends, Howe Weird here, and Pip has already decided that any animal named Rambo deserves respect, room to maneuver, and possibly its own theme music. After hearing today’s story, I am inclined to agree with the little eight-legged judge.
In Somerset, England, a 100-kilogram ram named Rambo found himself firmly wedged inside a concrete pipe, according to Wiltshire 999s and UPI’s odd-news roundup. Now, I have had days where I felt stuck, but I have never been stuck in drainage hardware with a farm crew waiting on firefighters. That is a special category of sheepish behavior.
A crew from Somerton Fire Station was called to Keinton Mandeville after reports came in that the ram could not get free. The rescue was unusual enough that firefighters had to think creatively with the equipment they had on the truck. Pip says that is firefighter talk for “this is not in the handbook, but we are doing it anyway.”
According to the fire service, crews used chimney rods to feed a line around Rambo, then carefully positioned a hearth sheet underneath him. Once everything was in place, the line was pulled so Rambo could slide along the sheet and out of the pipe. That sounds less like a barnyard mishap and more like a woolly magic trick.
For folks with livestock, good livestock halters and dependable farm work gloves are handy for ordinary chores, though I do not recommend anyone try to copy a firefighter rescue. When a large animal is trapped, the smart move is calling trained help, not starring in your own rodeo.
The good news is that Rambo was safely freed and left in the care of farmers. The call also marked Somerton’s 200th call-out of the year, which is quite a milestone to celebrate with a ram extraction. Pip says Rambo should avoid pipes from now on and stick to traditional ram activities, such as looking noble on hillsides and pretending fences are suggestions.
