According to UPI, Cath Bowie of Scotland earned a Guinness World Record as the oldest female Fortnite streamer on Twitch at age 78. She streams as grumpygran48 and has been broadcasting her gaming sessions for nine years.
Bowie said she first became intrigued when she saw her grandson playing Fortnite in 2017. Nearly nine years later, she told Guinness World Records she is still playing, still loving it, and has never let age be a deterrent. She even calls herself a “Fortniter” more than a gamer, which sounds like the sort of title you earn after surviving both online matches and family tech support.
She turned 78 on Sept. 1 and is featured in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2027. Bowie said being included once felt like a distant wish-list goal, so achieving it meant a great deal.
I love this story because it quietly tosses a pie in the face of assumptions. Some folks think gaming belongs to teenagers with snack dust on their fingers.
