The Ice Machine Joyride That Went Awry
I’m Howe Weird and here’s another one you can’t make up.
Now, you hear about folks getting DUIs in cars, trucks, even golf carts sometimes, especially down here in the South. But a Zamboni? That’s a new one on me, and apparently, it was a new one for the authorities in South Carolina too.
Seems like late one night, at a local ice rink, someone noticed the Zamboni – you know, that big machine that cleans and smooths the ice – wasn’t exactly being driven by a professional. This fella, Joshua Allen, all of 33 years old, was apparently acting a bit erratic behind the wheel, or should I say, behind the controls of this oversized ice shaver.
The police got called, and sure enough, they found Mr. Allen struggling mightily to navigate that big machine. Now, a Zamboni ain’t exactly built for speed or precision driving in tight circles when you’re not quite all there. He ended up failing a field sobriety test right there on the ice. Turns out, even though it’s not a road vehicle, a Zamboni is considered a motor vehicle under state law, so a DUI charge still sticks. Who knew?
The ice rink management was mighty surprised, let me tell you. Apparently, Mr. Allen wasn’t even an employee. He’d just… broken in. How he got his hands on the keys to that particular ride, and why he decided to take it for a spin, well, that’s still a bit of a mystery. Maybe he just had a hankering for perfectly smooth ice, or maybe he just liked the idea of a joyride on something a little less common.
It sure makes you think about security, doesn’t it? Whether it’s an ice rink or your own backyard, unexpected things happen. If you’re ever looking for some practical gadgets to keep an eye on things, or maybe just something useful for around the house, I’ve heard folks find all sorts of interesting and affordable items over at Temu. But next time, I hope Mr. Allen finds a hobby that doesn’t involve breaking into places or operating heavy machinery under the influence.
