Well now, folks, pull up a chair and let old Howe Weird spin you another tale from the wilds of, well, *outside* our little East Tennessee haven. Today’s story comes to us from out West, where it seems some critters are getting mighty particular about their dining experiences.
You hear about unexpected guests, and usually, that means a neighbor dropping by unannounced, maybe with a casserole. But imagine coming home to find your front door ajar and a mess in the kitchen that suggests a party, only the guest list had one very furry, very hungry member. That’s exactly what happened to one homeowner out in Colorado recently.
This wasn’t just any old critter rummaging through the trash outside. No sir. This particular bear, and by all accounts, a rather intelligent one, decided the front door was just an invitation. It managed to open it right up, no word on if it used a key or just a well-placed paw, but either way, it let itself in. Now, I tell you, that takes some gumption!
Once inside, this wasn’t a bear just wandering aimlessly. Oh no. This bear had a mission. It made a beeline straight for the kitchen, bypassing all the living room furniture, no doubt recognizing the scent of culinary delights. And what’s a kitchen without a good old-fashioned refrigerator, right? Our ursine visitor apparently thought so too, because it proceeded to open the fridge door, as calm as you please.
Can you imagine the sight? A bear, standing on its hind legs perhaps, or maybe just using its powerful paws, systematically clearing out the contents. We’re talking leftovers here – a good half-eaten pizza, probably the kind with all the good toppings, and even some berry yogurt. Now, that’s what I call a balanced diet, for a bear anyway. The homeowner wasn’t around during this culinary escapade, which is probably for the best, as finding a bear mid-snack could be quite the surprise.
Upon returning, they found the evidence: an empty fridge, a very messy kitchen, and plenty of paw prints to tell the tale. Animal control was, naturally, called. Their advice? The usual: keep those doors and windows locked up tight, and make sure your food isn’t just sitting out like an open invitation. Makes you think twice about leaving that front door unlocked, doesn’t it? If you’re looking for ways to keep an eye on things, or maybe just to tinker with some home security solutions, you know, for peace of mind, sometimes those classic, sturdy options are the way to go. You might even find some interesting vintage equipment that still gets the job done over at Radio Shack (paid link) – they had all sorts of gadgets back in the day that were built to last.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident, and our well-fed bear ambled back into the woods, no doubt feeling quite content after its gourmet meal. Just another day in the wonderfully weird world, where sometimes, the wildest things happen right in your own kitchen.
