Change of Plans: Pizza Night Gets Tossed in Seattle!

Well now, how do you do this fine day, my friends? Pull up a chair, won’t you? Got a peculiar little tale for you today, one that reminds us sometimes the simple things in life can get surprisingly complicated.

Down in Seattle, Washington, not too long ago, a fellow walked into a pizza shop with a hankering for some pie. Nothing unusual there, mind you; pizza’s a universally beloved comfort. His order came out to a perfectly reasonable twenty-two dollars. But when it came time to settle up, things took a turn for the interesting. Instead of a card or crisp bills, this gentleman presented a rather substantial bag of loose change.

Now, I reckon most of us have dug through the console of our car or the bottom of a purse for some spare coins to make exact change. But a whole bag? That’s a commitment! The folks working at the pizza shop, polite as could be, explained their company policy: they simply couldn’t accept such a large quantity of bulk change. It’s not uncommon, really; counting all those pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters can take up valuable time when there’s a line forming, and sometimes the machines just aren’t set up for it.

You know, back when I was a young whippersnapper, trying to save up for a new gizmo from the old (paid link) Radio Shack, every penny counted. And you usually had to count ’em yourself! We didn’t have those fancy coin-counting machines you see in grocery stores nowadays, making things a fair bit easier for everyone.

Well, this news about the policy didn’t sit too well with our pizza enthusiast. An argument started up, and from what I understand, the conversation quickly went south, with the customer getting verbally abusive towards the employees. Now, nobody wants that when they’re just trying to do their job and serve up a hot meal. The situation, regrettably, kept escalating until, in a moment of what I can only describe as poor judgment, the gentleman took the very pizza he had ordered and, well, he threw it at the employees. That’s right, a perfectly good pizza, tossed right at the folks who made it for him.

After his unexpected culinary projectile launch, the man decided he’d had enough of the establishment and left without ever paying a dime, or a nickel, or a quarter, for that matter. It just goes to show you, sometimes a simple transaction can unravel in the most peculiar ways. Always pays to have a little flexibility in your payment options, I suppose. And perhaps, a bit of patience, too.
