Drive-Thru Delight? Man Attempts to Pay for McDonald’s with an Unexpected Green

Well, good gracious, folks, and a warm Southern welcome to you all! Pull up a chair, metaphorically speaking, because I’ve got a tale from down south that’s sure to tickle your funny bone, or at least make you scratch your head a bit.

Picture this: a late night, the kind where you get that hankering for something quick and satisfying, and a McDonald’s drive-thru sign looks like a beacon in the dark. Our story takes us to South Carolina, where one gentleman found himself in just such a situation. He rolled up to the window, placed his order – probably a burger, some fries, and a drink, the usual comforting late-night fare – and waited for his total.

Now, most of us would reach for our wallet, pull out a twenty, or maybe swipe a card. But not this fellow. Oh no, he had a different kind of currency in mind. When it came time to settle the bill, he presented the McDonald’s employee with a bag of what was identified as marijuana. I reckon that cashier had to do a double-take! You just don’t see that every day, do you?

Naturally, the fast-food worker, probably as bewildered as a cat in a dog park, politely but firmly refused this unconventional payment method. And, as you might expect when a situation takes such an unusual turn, they decided to call the local authorities. It’s important to remember that while the world moves fast with new payment options and digital wallets, some things remain firmly in the ‘not accepted’ category.

Now, you might remember back in the day, when folks were still buying their first VCRs or maybe a little Walkman down at RADIO SHACK (paid link), payment was usually pretty straightforward: cash, maybe a check, credit card if you were fancy. But these days, it seems some folks are getting mighty creative with their currency, even if it’s not exactly legal tender.

When the police arrived on the scene, they found our imaginative diner still sitting in his vehicle. After a brief chat, he was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana and attempted distribution. It just goes to show you, folks, that while some things might seem like a good idea at the time, common sense usually wins out. Especially when you’re dealing with what the law calls, well, substances that aren’t meant for drive-thru transactions. Sometimes, a plain old dollar bill is just what the doctor ordered.
