Green for Griddles: The McDonald’s ‘Payment’ That Didn’t Fly

Well now, good mornin’, good afternoon, or good evening, wherever you are listenin’ in from! Howe Weird here, ready to share another head-scratcher with ya from our peculiar world. Today, we’re headin’ down to South Carolina for a little tale about a man, his hunger, and a rather unconventional method of payment at the drive-thru.

Now, I reckon a lot of us have been in a hurry at the drive-thru. Maybe you left your wallet at home, or your card’s declined, or you just plain forgot what you wanted to order until you were at the speaker. It happens to the best of us, especially when that hunger pang starts growlin’ like a bear in springtime. But most of us just pull over, figure it out, or maybe head on home for a sandwich. This fellow, though, he had a different idea for settling his bill at McDonald’s.

Seems he pulled up to the window, ready for his meal, and instead of reachin’ for cash or a credit card, he offered up a bag of, well, a bag of marijuana. Now, I tell ya, if you’re gonna try and barter, you better make sure your currency is universally accepted! This ain’t a swap meet, it’s a fast-food joint. I’m pretty sure ‘a little green’ isn’t on the list of approved tender for a Big Mac or a side of fries. And it certainly wasn’t the kind of signal you’d be sending out on one of those old-timey CB radios you used to get from Radio Shack (paid link), was it? Different kind of transaction entirely.

As you might imagine, the folks at McDonald’s weren’t too keen on this particular form of payment. The police were called to the scene, and it wasn’t long before our hungry, imaginative friend found himself in a bit of a pickle. He was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana and, to add to his woes, driving under the influence. It just goes to show you, sometimes the simplest transactions can take the most unexpected turns.

It’s a peculiar reminder that while we all get a hankerin’ for some fast food now and then, it’s best to stick to the usual methods of payment and, of course, keep things on the straight and narrow. Otherwise, you might just end up with a side of legal trouble instead of those golden arches.
