Hold the Ketchup, Pass the… Greens? Florida Man’s Drive-Thru Dilemma

Well now, howdy-doo, fine folks! Hope your day’s been going smoother than a glass of sweet tea on a porch swing. Gather ’round, because Howe Weird’s got a tale from down in Florida that just about takes the biscuit when it comes to unusual transactions.

Seems like a fella, 37 years young, found himself in a bit of a pickle around 1 AM, feeling those late-night munchies something fierce. He pulled up to a McDonald’s drive-thru, just like many of us do when a craving hits. Now, most folks, when they get to that window, they pull out their wallet, maybe a debit card, or a gift card they got for their birthday. You know, legal tender. But this gentleman had a rather… unconventional approach to payment.

He tried to hand over a bag of what employees quickly recognized as marijuana. Now, I reckon McDonald’s has a wide menu, from Big Macs to McFlurries, but I’m pretty sure “bag of greens” ain’t on the dollar menu, nor any menu for that matter. The folks working that late shift, bless their quick thinking, didn’t hesitate. They knew a transaction like that was a no-go and gave the local authorities a ring.

When the officers arrived, they found our hopeful diner still waiting patiently in the drive-thru lane. Can’t say I blame him for wanting some hot fries, but one has to wonder about his method. He ended up getting charged with possession of marijuana and attempted drug dealing. And sad to say, no Quarter Pounder with cheese was exchanged in the process.

It just goes to show, folks, sometimes the simplest things, like knowing how to properly pay for your grub, can get mighty complicated if you ain’t got your ducks in a row. It makes you almost miss the days when you might have tried to barter for things, like trading spare parts down at your local Radio Shack (paid link). Though, even back then, I don’t recall “herbal remedies” being on the accepted trade list for a new resistor. Perhaps this fella could use a good, sturdy wallet (paid link) for his cash or cards. It’s certainly a more widely accepted form of payment for those late-night cravings.

So next time you’re heading to the drive-thru, just remember: cash, card, or sometimes a gift card from a loved one will do the trick. Keep it simple, keep it legal, and you’ll get your food without any unwanted guests in the backseat of a patrol car.
