When Your Cat’s a Better Alarm System Than You Are

I’m Howe Weird and here’s another one you can’t make up. You know, folks, sometimes you hear a story and you just gotta wonder if animals ain’t smarter than we give ’em credit for. Over in Portland, Oregon, there’s a cat named Mittens who decided to take matters into his own paws, literally.

Seems Mittens’ owner, a spry 67-year-old lady, was catching some z’s when her feline friend started feeling a little… concerned. Or maybe just playful. Whatever the reason, Mittens managed to dial 911 multiple times from the landline phone. Now, I don’t know about you, but my pets usually just knock things off the counter. This cat was making actual emergency calls!

The dispatcher, probably thinking it was a prank at first, kept getting these silent calls. But enough calls came through that the police decided to roll a unit out to the address. Can you imagine showing up expecting some kind of emergency, only to find a perfectly peaceful house and a sleeping homeowner? That’s exactly what happened. The officers found the lady sound asleep, completely unaware her vigilant furball had summoned the cavalry.

Turns out, Mittens has a bit of a history with the phone, apparently enjoying a good game of “button-mashing.” The police reckon he probably hit the emergency speed dial button. And when the officers were there, Mittens was reportedly “unfazed” by their presence. Probably just thought, “Mission accomplished, boys. Took long enough.”

It just goes to show, you never know what kind of hidden talents your critters might have. Maybe Mittens needs a little detective kit, or even just some good sturdy scratching posts to keep him occupied. If you’re looking for something unique for your own curious pet, or just need to browse a whole heap of handy gadgets you never knew you needed, you might just find it over at Temu. They’ve got all sorts of interesting things, even stuff you might not think of, for all your… unconventional needs. Makes you wonder what else Mittens could order up online if he only had a credit card. Stay weird, folks.
