Moose Named Emil Wanders Onto Warsaw Train Tracks

Howe Weird and little Pip in 3D cinematic style watch a moose delay trains on Warsaw tracks

Howdy, good people, Howe Weird here, and Pip has been practicing his train conductor voice ever since I told him today’s story involves a moose on the tracks. Unfortunately, his whistle sounds like a sneeze in a thimble, but his enthusiasm is mighty.

According to UPI, commuters in Warsaw, Poland, had an unusual delay when a loose moose wandered onto the tracks between Warsaw West and Warsaw Central stations. Rail operator PLK called the visitor an “uninvited guest” and even nicknamed him Emil, which is a fine name for a moose who accidentally became the evening’s transportation director.

The presence of Emil caused service on platforms 3 and 4 to be suspended while railway employees and animal experts worked out how to move him safely. PLK joked that they wanted Emil returned to his natural habitat, “but not by rail.” Pip says that is the kind of official statement he appreciates: informative, calm, and just sassy enough to fit on the porch.

Moose are impressive creatures, and a train station is no place for one to hold court. Officials later confirmed that Emil had been tranquilized and relocated to a wooded area a safe distance from the tracks. Normal rail operations then resumed, though I suspect a few passengers spent the ride home explaining that no, really, the delay was a moose.

If you enjoy wildlife watching from a respectful distance, a pair of wildlife binoculars can make the experience safer and more enjoyable. And for young train fans, a simple toy train set is a better place for pretend delays than an actual commuter line.

So here is to Emil, the moose who briefly reminded a capital city that nature does not always read the schedule. Pip says if Emil ever visits again, someone should at least offer him a timetable and a very large platform ticket.
