Well now, how’s everybody doing out there today? Hope you’re all having a fine week so far, and maybe even got some good sunshine on your face. Here in East Tennessee, we see all sorts, and sometimes a story comes along that just makes you scratch your head and chuckle a little at the sheer audacity of folks. This one, it’s a prime example.
Picture this: You’re out running errands, maybe grabbing a new charger or just browsing the latest gadgets. You might even remember a time when getting your hands on the newest tech meant a trip to a specialty shop, perhaps even somewhere like RADIO SHACK (paid link), long before these big box stores dotted every landscape. Nowadays, places like Best Buy are practically treasure troves of modern marvels, from flat-screen TVs that fill a whole wall to tiny earbuds that sound like a symphony hall.
Now, most of us, when we want something from one of these stores, we do the usual: pick it out, take it to the register, and pay for it. Simple enough, right? Well, apparently, not for everyone. Not too long ago, police got a call about a situation unfolding at a Best Buy, a report of a theft that was, shall we say, in full swing.
Turns out, a gentleman had decided he’d had enough of the conventional shopping experience. Instead of walking his chosen items to a checkout lane, he loaded up a shopping cart – and I mean *loaded* it – with a whole mess of electronics. Then, bold as you please, he reportedly just pushed that cart, brimming with pricey gear, right on out the front door without so much as a glance at a cashier.
Now, you can imagine, that kind of action tends to attract a little attention. Store employees, sharp as tacks, noticed what was happening and confronted him out in the parking lot. At that point, our fellow decided his best bet was to abandon his wheeled bounty and try his luck on foot. He took off running, leaving behind a cart full of recovered merchandise.
But you know, running away from a scene with a full head start is one thing; disappearing into thin air is another. The police were on it quicker than a hiccup. They located him nearby, not too far from the store, and he was taken into custody. All those electronics, which I imagine included a good mix of things like a brand new soundbar (paid link) or maybe a fancy gaming console, were safely back where they belonged.
It just goes to show you, some plans aren’t as clever as they might seem in the moment. If you’re looking for a new gadget, a little patience and a proper purchase tend to save you a whole lot of trouble in the long run. There are always sales, and for gosh sakes, you can find just about anything, including a new smart TV (paid link), with a few clicks online these days.
So, that’s the latest bit of strangeness for you folks. Remember to keep it on the straight and narrow, it’s always less complicated in the end.
