Good afternoon, everybody, Howe Weird here, and Pip has put on his top hat like he is expecting somebody to hand him a giant check. Today’s story comes out of Germantown, Maryland, where one grandmother managed to do something most folks would count lucky once in a lifetime. She hit a $50,000 lottery prize for the second time this year.
According to UPI, the woman collected a $50,000 prize from a Pick 5 drawing. She told Maryland Lottery officials that every Tuesday, she sends her grandson to the store to buy her Pick 3, Pick 4, and Pick 5 tickets. That is a family errand with a little suspense built into it, and in this case, it turned into a mighty memorable one.
The winning Pick 5 ticket came from the Aug. 23 drawing and was purchased at the Town Center Sunoco on Germantown Road in Germantown. When she realized what had happened, she said, “Oh my goodness, I hit the five-digit again,” and called her grandson to tell him she had won again.
Now, “again” is doing a whole lot of work in that sentence. Most of us are happy when we find a five-dollar bill in last winter’s coat. This lady is out here collecting her second $50,000 prize of 2026 like good fortune has her address written in permanent marker.
The winner said some of the prize money will go toward home renovations, and she also plans to share some with her grandson. That seems only fair, considering he has been the regular Tuesday ticket runner. A good paint roller kit might come in handy if renovations are on the list, and a sturdy tool kit never hurts when a house starts getting fresh attention.
Pip says the real lesson here is to be nice to your grandchildren and keep your lucky routines organized. I say it is also a reminder that strange luck has a way of walking through the same door twice, even if most of us are still waiting for it to knock once.
